Product Description Humanscale, the leading manufacturer of ergonomic office and home office products, received the Best of NeoCon 2004 Gold Award in the Ergonomic/Task Seating category for its newest introduction designed by Niels Diffrient, the Liberty chair. Utilizing its patent-pending Form-Sensing Mesh Technology, the Liberty chair combines all the benefits of traditional mesh seating - breathability, durability, sustainability and aesthetic appeal - with the body-friendly support of highly-contoured foam cushions. In designing Liberty, Niels rethought the application of mesh. Instead of using a single, flat panel of stretch mesh, he created Liberty with three panels of extremely low-stretch mesh, bonded together in a specific pattern to create a contoured shape optimized for the human back. The result is Liberty's Form-Sensing Mesh Technology, which provides exceptional lumbar support without an external lumbar device. In fact, this new technology adjusts dynamically to accommodate different back shapes and sizes. Thus, there's no need for users to manually adjust their chair's lumbar position or curve - Liberty does it automatically. We are an Authorized Humanscale Retailer.

Worth the $$$ April 7, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Arrived in one box, two pieces. Dropped chair piece onto wheel assembly--took three minutes, two of those unwrapping the plastic. Sat down a little nervous that I'd spent too much money. Twenty minutes later realized I should have bought a good chair long ago. Strongly recommend this.
Feels like a cloud October 19, 2008 I just unpacked this chair, so I can't attest to its long-term effects, but I've never felt a more comfortable chair in my life. I ordered it because my tax accountant had one and was raving about it. His had a green seat and gray mesh, very handsome. I have an Aeron chair for my office, but I wanted a second desk chair to use at my kitchen table so when my husband's around, we could work at the same time. We're both teachers and writers, so we work at home a lot. The Liberty chair makes the Aeron feel stiff and hard by comparison. I'm considering switching them and making the Aeron the backup chair. I got the Aeron on Craig's List--there's always tons of them, but I haven't seen a Liberty chair on Craig's List. I got mine online for $750, free shipping--I didn't have a choice of color, but the blue of my chair looks good in a home office--even though it's not half as lovely as my accountant's color combo.
LIFE SAVER April 7, 2006 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
This chair is so comfortable I almost want to bring a pillow and blanket and sleep on it. So supportive and easy to use, totally worth the investment. A life saver!
Nice chair, but... November 8, 2007 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
This chair is comfortable, but not $1000 comfortable. I find a $250 Herman Miller Ergon 3 chair to be just as good. The seating material is very hard, which tends to hurt my lower back and the back of my legs. The all-mesh design of the Aeron chair is much better, but in my opinion the Aeron chair does not look as nice, and requires all kinds of adjustments.
Futhermore, the chair is not very serviceable. I bought mine with adjustable arms, but later found I would rather have the chair without arms. The arms cannot be removed by the end user. You have to call Humanscale for them to do it, and even they don't seem to know how. It took a lot of phone calls to finally get an answer: it costs $45 and a technician has to come to your home to remove the arms.
Finally, customer service at Humanscale is very poor. After I finally found out how I can remove the arms, their service department twice canceled appointments to service my chair, with varying excuses, at the last minute. Both times this upset my schedule, since the appointments were in the middle of the day.
Overall I regret my purchase. For what I paid for this chair, I expected more, both in product and in service.

Don't buy this chair unless you want your back to hurt. This chair will be responsible for many sleepless nights and visits to the chiropractor. Basically it's for looks not comfort.
