Useful But Frustratingly Expensive November 24, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have had a Scooter for several years and now have a use for another one, which is why I'm here. It is advertised as a "laptop stand," and it does that job very well (I'm on the couch typing on my Scooter-borne laptop right now), but it's also excellent as an accessory for a desktop computer, being a keyboard/mouse platform that is conveniently independent of the desk or table on which your monitor sits. No matter what chair you sit in or how high your monitor, the Scooter can put the keyboard/mouse in the right place for a good, ergonomic fit. I like it much better than any under-desk "keyboard drawer." Maybe the Scooter isn't so expensive if you think of it as the only "computer furniture" you need.
To tell the truth, I came here looking for something "like" the Scooter but costing a lot less. Unfortunately, I'm really not finding anything, so I may have to order another Scooter. Herman Miller must have this thing patented down to the nubs, because it's so useful and simple that you'd think it would have been copied by a dozen other name brands and sold everywhere for $59.95. You can't look at the Scooter and think, "Right, that's obviously worth three bills." I'd give it five stars if it wasn't so bloody expensive.
It's worth only as much as you want to pay to have it just right January 9, 2007 Being able to adjust both the height and the angle of this lap-top table makes it an ergonomic delight, without equivalent to my knowledge. So functionally speaking, this table is worth just as much as you want to pay to have it just right. Aesthetics is a different thing though since Scooter is rather lacking. For this money you get some clunky pieces of cheap metal attached to a table made out of no less than three pieces of wood.
A surprising bonus is to see how well this table does for a child who's still learning how to write: It's all about posture perfect!
Buying this through the business was not as painful a purchase as otherwise. However, Herman Miller should have priced it no more than $175, which would still be twice as much as competing (lesser) products.
Home Office Solutions wants to be all about service, but can definitely improve since I got my table without screws and assembly instructions.
Best keyboard positioning solution short of very expensive office furniture July 7, 2008 I've used a Herman Miller Scooter for about ten years, across various jobs and now in a home office. I have found nothing that offers its level of positioning flexibility short of very expensive office furniture. (There are some cubible setups that have a very large flexible corner cutout with height and angle adjustment.)
I had bad tendinitis until I got my setup under control. If it hurts to type, seek help! Find the right setup for you. Even if it's $1,000, that's cheaper than visits to the orthopedic surgeon.
Yes, the price is too high. Try finding a used one first. They don't make the plastic-topped model anymore, which is what I have; it was a bit cheaper.
Also, if you're handy, you can cut a wider board to replace the top. I used a piece of oak, and now I have room for a wide ergonomic keyboard, trackball, and other controllers. Note: it's a bit wobbly with a wider board though. I may have to hack it further to add stability.

Stand leg came bent. We had to put it in a vise and straighten it. Also box came with obscenities written on the outside of the box. This could have all happened during shipping but it was a Christmas present and a little disappointing. I do want to add that after we straightened the stand it has been working great for us.
